About the Author, I'm Dennis D. Montoya, a fantasy and literary fiction writer whose stories explore connection, memory, resilience, and the quiet hope that survives even life's hardest moments. My work has been recognized as a finalist in the Writer's Digest Writing Competition, and I write from the intersection of storytelling and healthcare, where empathy is not only a skill, but a way of seeing the world. I grew up in Washington State and graduated from Clarkston High School before serving two enlistments in the U.S. Army. Afterward, I worked a variety of jobs—janitor, baggage handler, even garbage man—before finding my calling in healthcare, eventually becoming a Registered Nurse. Those years taught me something simple but powerful: people are endlessly fascinating. They are resilient, intelligent, and far kinder than the world often gives them credit for. Writing has always been part of who I am. I began in fifth grade, telling odd little stories that entertained my classmates. By eighth grade, they were still odd—but at least they were better written. Like many fantasy writers of my generation, I was shaped by Dungeons & Dragons and later by Terry Goodkind's Wizard's First Rule. That novel inspired my close friend Hank and me to say, "We can do this too." So we did. In 2015, Hank and I self-published Over the Dragonwall, the beginning of a much larger fantasy world. Since then, I've continued building Ambervale, deepening its history, its people, and the stories waiting to be told. Today I'm revising The Prophecy of the Bell, the next novel in that world, while continuing to write essays and short fiction inspired by the people and experiences that have shaped my life. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find a story here worth remembering. — Dennis D. Montoya
