Fionne McQueen is a former elementary school teacher and mannequin model, which is a combination that makes more sense once you've read the book. She spent most of her twenties standing very still in department store windows and most of her thirties teaching second graders how to sit still long enough to learn to read. Somewhere between those two careers — and a divorce, the loss of her mother, and a few years of figuring out solo parenting — she realized the unique discipline she'd grown up inside had quietly become the most useful tool she owned. She lives on the West Coast with her two daughters and two cats. The cats are better at sitting still than anyone in the house. If you ever walked past a store window and could have sworn the mannequin blinked — that might have been her.
