Rev. Patrick B. Reyes, Ph.D., is Auburn Theological Seminary's 12th president. A Chicano writer, theologian, and executive leader, Reyes is the award-winning author of The Purpose Gap, Nobody Cries When We Die, and most recent book, Pedagogy of the Ancestors. Before joining Auburn Theological Seminary, he served in leadership roles across higher education and faith-based nonprofit organizations, focusing on leadership development, institutional innovation, and the formation of emerging scholars and leaders. Reyes serves on the boards of several theological, educational, publishing, and nonprofit organizations. He is a board director of the American Academy of Religion and former president of the Religious Education Association. His scholarship and service have been recognized by Universities and non-profits, and he was inducted into the Morehouse College MLK Jr. Collegium of Scholars. Reyes earned a doctorate and a master’s degree from Claremont School of Theology, a Master of Divinity from Boston University School of Theology, and a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Sacramento. Children’s Defense Fund selected Nobody Cries as the first book for its inaugural book club, as well as recognized him 2017-2020 as a "Great Teacher and Preacher" alongside others such as Rev. James Lawson, co-founder of the United Farm Workers and Presidential Medal of Freedom Dolores Huerta, and MacArthur Genius Grant and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Taylor Branch.
