He is the author of Legitimate Distrust: Why Conspiracy Theories Grow When Institutions Fail and The Allegiance Paradox: Beyond the Law — How Ethical Erosion and Policy Drift Undermine American Citizenship, the first two volumes of The Collapse of Trust, a four-part inquiry into how public belief in institutions fractures and what it takes to restore it. His forthcoming I, System (September 2026) examines artificial intelligence as architecture rather than agent, asking how non-aware systems already shape law, governance, labor, and public life. His earlier cultural histories, America's Cigar Story and Smoke & Oak, chronicle the industries, rituals, and political economies behind two distinctly American crafts — exploring how everyday objects reveal the deeper currents of class, labor, and national identity.Saviano pursued doctoral studies in political theory at Georgetown University, where his work centered on complexity theory, the philosophy of social science, and models of institutional power. Earlier in his career he served as an aide in the Clinton administration and later as a political consultant — experiences that inform his attention to how institutional machinery actually operates from the inside.
