Dr. Seth Berkley, a medical doctor and serial entrepreneur dedicated to global health, has spent his career reducing the burden of infectious diseases through vaccination. He has had the privilege of working with leading institutions during the “golden period” of global health. These include the Special Pathogens Branch of US Centers for Disease Control and the Ugandan Ministry of Health, where he conducted groundbreaking work on AIDS while rebuilding the immunization system. Subsequently, at the Rockefeller Foundation, he worked on public health education creating new public health practical schools in Asia and Africa as well as founded and led the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative. He then served as CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, leading the global effort that provided vaccines for more than 50% of the world’s children and co-founded and led COVAX, an initiative for equitable COVID-19 vaccine distribution to developing countries which delivered 2 billion doses to 146 countries. Currently, he is an Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology and Senior Advisor at Brown University's Pandemic Center, and an advisor/Board member for numerous vaccine, biotechnology, and technology companies. Dr. Berkley has authored hundreds of articles and opinion pieces on vaccines and infectious diseases, appearing in publications such as The Economist, Nature, Science, NEJM, Scientific American, New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times, Atlantic, Le Monde, El Pais, TIME, Lancet, Fortune, Spectator, BMJ, Harvard Business Review, MIT Technology Review, and others. He is a pilot and a passionate sailor. He has delivered three TED talks, holds three honorary doctorates, is an elected member of the US National Academy of Medicine, was featured on the cover of Newsweek, recognized by TIME magazine as one of the TIME 100, and named by WIRED magazine among the WIRED 25. He and Gavi have received numerous prestigious awards.
