The Lord saves us to be an influence to others, to bring glory to our Heavenly Father, and to live as salt and light. Jesus fulfilled the Law completely and showcases how true righteousness is within, not without. We also talk about how Jesus took the root of murder deep into the heart and exposed anger and contempt as destructive steps towards murder. Our speech is a mirror of our hearts, and we can’t truly worship the Lord with hearts that are not right with God. In today’s episode, we discuss what Paul meant when he said that younger widows had cast off their faith. Once they did this, then they became idle, gossipy, and meddlesome… sounds like a great group of women, huh? Some of them were possibly even involved in “curious arts.” Paul commanded the younger widows to remarry, bear children, and guide the home to avoid reproach. We stress reading the scriptures in their proper context and applying them accurately. We finish by debating whether the “elders” of verse 17 are older widows, elderly people, or ministers. In today’s episode, we present the argument that 1Tim. 5:8 is commonly taken out of context and misapplied to lazy husbands. The truth of the matter is that Paul is speaking to the men who refuse to take care of widows and refuse to support them. We discuss the qualifications for widows receiving help from the church, and we also go over the dangers younger widows face in “waxing wanton against Christ.” When you abandon earlier commitments, it always leads to condemnation and the possibility that you may cast your faith away.
